Stride Week Program (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005)

“Stride Week”

A focus on the forward and backward stride

The Academy Skating Director Mike Ansell will provide instruction in a singular focus: the stride.  By the end of this week-long program, players will understand the mechanics of their stride and the process of developing into a more powerful, efficient fluid skater. Coach Ansell and the Academy staff will work with sixteen players over the five days where each session will be 75 minutes.

The program will concentrate on forward and backward stride to provide:

  • Alignment:  Aligning joints to create linear power.
  • Posture: Quiet upper body (shoulders level, chest pressed forward) has tremendous impact on the lower body.
  • Power:Outward full extension ensuring maximum blade contact with the ice.
  • Tempo/Stride rate: Generate gears for all on ice situations.
  • Recovery: Full center return to an outside edge.
  • Small Group Training – Deliberate and constructive on ice instruction is essential to skill growth.  This program will have a 4:1 Player to Coach ratio or lower each session.
