  • HARBORCENTER Development, LLC was named the preferred developer of the Webster Block on August 29th, 2012
  • The Webster Block, a 1.7 acre city-owned site located directly across from First Niagara Center, is considered a prized parcel due to its location in downtown Buffalo, its proximity to Canalside, two major sports venues and the Peace Bridge
  • The development of HARBORCENTER provides approximately 1,600 local construction jobs over the course of two years
  • The facilities are expected to create 350 full-time jobs and generate $48 million in state and local taxes over the next ten years
  • HARBORCENTER Development, LLC officially broke ground on April 13th, 2013
  • Populous is the architect for the project, with GSB serving as associate hotel architect and Mortenson Construction serving as construction manager; ICON Venue Group is the owner’s representative firm
  • John Koelmel was named President of HARBORCENTER on June 6th, 2013; Koelmel oversees the day-to-day operations of the complex, including the facility’s hotel, restaurant, retail, ice rinks and parking structure

  • On January 22nd, 2014, HARBORCENTER announced that IMPACT Sports Performance will operate the high performance, off-ice training facility

  • VP and Director of Hockey Nik Fattey announced HARBORCENTER’s first annual youth hockey tournaments on March 6th, 2014,which include twenty new events for boys and girls, ages 7 to 19, at the AAA/AA and Tier I/Tier II levels
  • HARBORCENTER announced on April 1st, 2014 that a one-of-a-kind Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop will open at HARBORCENTER
  • On April 8th, 2014, HARBORCENTER president John Koelmel and Erie Community College president Jack Quinn, Jr. announced HARBORCENTER will be the home of ECC Kats hockey, beginning with the 2014-15 season
  • USA Hockey announced on May 28th, 2014 that two major world championships (IIHF Under 18 Women’s Worlds and IPC Ice Sledge Hockey Worlds) will be played at HARBORCENTER in 2015
  • The National Hockey League and the Buffalo Sabres announced on August 18th, 2014 that the NHL Combine will move to Buffalo in 2015 and 2016, with the event being held at First Niagara Center and the soon-to-be-completed HARBORCENTER complex across from the arena
  • On August 28th, 2014, HARBORCENTER President John R. Koelmel unveiled the project’s retail plan that will create upwards of 10,000 square feet of new space by the end of the calendar year and as much as 20,000 square feet of additional retail opportunity in the adjacent First Niagara Center over the next several years
