  • On August 29, 2012, HARBORCENTER Development, LLC was named the preferred developer of the Webster Block
  • The Webster Block, a 1.7 acre city-owned site located directly across from First Niagara Center, is considered a prized parcel due to its location in downtown Buffalo, its proximity to Canalside, two major sports venues and the Peace Bridge
  • The development of HARBORCENTER provides approximately 1,600 local construction jobs over the course of two years
  • The facilities are expected to create 350 full-time jobs and generate $48 million in state and local taxes over the next ten years
  • HARBORCENTER Development, LLC officially broke ground on April 13, 2013
  • Populous is the architect for the project, with GSB serving as associate hotel architect and Mortenson Construction serving as construction manager; ICON Venue Group is the owner’s representative firm
  • On June 6, 2013, John Koelmel was named President of HARBORCENTER; Koelmel oversees the day-to-day operations of the complex, including the facility’s hotel, restaurant, retail, ice rinks and parking structure

  • On October 22, 2013, Kevyn Adams was named Vice President and Director of the HARBORCENTER Academy of Hockey, a premier hockey training and development destination
  • The expansion of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres Youth Organization from one team to seven teams was announced on October 22, 2013, and will be overseen by Larry Playfair and Michael Peca
  • On November 18, 2013, Dominic Verni was named General Manager of (716) Food and Sport – HARBORCENTER’s restaurant and sports bar
  • On December 11, 2013, Adam Mair agreed to join the HARBORCENTER Academy of Hockey staff as a coach
  • On January 22, 2014, HARBORCENTER announced that IMPACT Sports Performance will operate the high performance, off-ice training facility
  • On January 23, 2014, HARBORCENTER VP and Director of the Academy of Hockey, Kevyn Adams, announced that Marty Biron will join the Academy of Hockey coaching staff, as its Director of Goaltending
  • On January 29, 2014, HARBORCENTER unveiled it’s restaurant plans for unveiled plans for (716) Food and Sport, HARBORCENTER’s 13,000 square foot dining establishment
  • On March 6, 2014, VP and Director of Hockey Nik Fattey announced HARBORCENTER’s first annual youth hockey tournaments which include twenty new events for boys and girls, ages 7 to 19, at the AAA/AA and Tier I/Tier II levels
  • On April 1, 2014, HARBORCENTER announced that a one-of-a-kind Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop will open at HARBORCENTER this fall
  • On April 8, 2014, HARBORCENTER president John Koelmel and Erie Community College president Jack Quinn, Jr. announced HARBORCENTER will be the home of ECC Kats hockey, beginning with the 2014-15 season
